      In researching this line for descendants of Nathaniel Hancock and Mary Prentice (m. Cambridge, 8 March 1664), I found various lists of their children. I’ve reviewed three reliable sources on AmericanAncestors.org. Cambridge births [v1:322-323] lists nine (9) children, and “Hancock Family – 1635 – from England,” [NEHGR 9:352] lists thirteen (13).

      This third list is most important for descendants of Elizabeth Hancock and Benjamin Wyman, who married at Cambridge on 20 Jan 1703/4. This list is transcribed from a Hancock family Bible, and shows the birth of fourteen (14) children. It also challenges the generally-accepted “fact” that Elizabeth Hancock (b 1677) married Benjamin Wyman (b 1674).

      This Hancock Bible transcription shows that Nathaniel & Mary (Prentice) Hancock had two daughters named Elizabeth. Their 9th child, a daughter named Elizabeth, was born 26 August, 1677, and then died 10 July, 1678. Eight years later - 1 May 1686 – Nathaniel & Mary named their 13th child Elizabeth.
      If we choose to trust this early Hancock family Bible transcription (which I do), then Elizabeth Hancock was sixteen when she married Benjamin, nearly twelve years his junior. Following from this, she was nineteen at the birth of her first child, Elizabeth in 1705, and 39 – rather than the supposed 48 – at the birth of her last child Jonas in 1725.
