~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gordon Schell - pg. 5: About 1831, after some thirty years of marriage, John and Margaret Shell separated and divorced. John left his wife and family and sometime thereafter departed Burke County, N.C. and moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee. Evidently, he took "Margaret Setzer", a Cherokee Indian woman, with him. This woman he befriended, protected, and shielded from the expulsion of Cherokee people, which is often called the "Trail of Tears".
