WILLIAM KEMUEL McCALL DEAD -- Life-long Resident of Callaway County Passed Away Monday Night -- Funeral Wednesday Afternoon
William Kemuel McCall, a life-long resident of Callaway county, died at his home one-half mile south of Fulton at 11:00 o'clock Monday night. Mr. McCall had not been well since Christmas, but had been confined to his bed only since last Thursday. Death was due to a complication of diseases.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian church in Fulton Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. Garnet Alcorn. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery with the rites of Free Masonry.
Mr. McCall was born near Reform and lived there until 1910 when he moved south of Fulton and had lived there since. He was 83 years old at the time of his death, having been born December 7, 1840. He was a son of native Virginians, J. E. McCall and Angeline Gilbert, and was the eldest of a family of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, only four of whom now survive. His education was received in the schools of Callaway county and at Westminster College where he was a student in 1860 and 1861. Two years after leaving college he was married to Miss Maggie A. Coats, of near Reform, December 15, 1863. The couple celebrated their golden wedding December 15, 1913, and last Christmas celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage.
Besides his wife Mr. McCall is survived by seven children - five sons and two daughters: T. H. McCall, J. M. McCall, Mrs. E. C. Holman, and Mrs. E. B. Craghead, all of near Fulton; Dr. W. K. McCall, of Laddonia; R. K. McCall, of Reform; and Clarence F. McCall, of Akita, Japan. The brothers and sisters living are: Mrs. Fannie Berry, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. H. R. Coats and Miss Katherine McCall, of Reform, and J. R. McCall of St. Joseph. Ten grandchildren also survive: Kemmie Craghead, Morris, Ruth, Gladys and Preston McCall, all of Fulton; Crawford, Margaret and Levan McCall, of Laddonia, and Field and Elizabeth McCall of Akita, Japan. Four grandchildren have passed away: Maggie and Edwin McCall Holman, Fulton, and Merritt and Robert McCall, Akita, Japan.
Mr. McCall united with the Old Liberty Christian church near Reform in 1864. He later transferred his membership to the church at Reform and in 1910 became a member of the First Christian Church of Fulton. In his passing Callaway loses one of her most substantial citizens who will leave his impress upon the century in which he lived. A man with high principles, upright and honorable in his dealings, with his fellowmen, he had the respect of the entire community. He will be greatly missed in the church life and in his family and circle of friends and acquaintances. Much sympathy is extended to all those to whom his passing brings sorrow.
