    • ARLIE LESTER BOWLING, age 87, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at his home in Sugar Land, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lester and Mary Arvilla Fike Bowling; and daughter, Julia Lee Miller. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty H. Bowling; son, John Riley Bowling and his wife Donna; sister, Fern Girard; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Arlie was born in Esbon, Kansas, and after high school graduation, entered Oklahoma A&M. He graduated as the Outstanding graduate in 1942. He received his MBA from Harvard in 1946 and PhD from the University of Oklahoma in 1971. Arlie was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. After owning several businesses and teaching at Mississippi University in Oxford, he joined the National Cotton Council as Director of Cotton Foundations and Senior Economist. From there he worked as President of the Rice Foundation, a branch of the U.S. Rice Council, until his retirement. Visitation: Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Earthman Southwest Chapel, 12555 South Kirkwood, Stafford. Funeral Service: Thursday, May 15, 2008, 10:30 AM, Sugar Grove Church of Christ, 11600 West Airport Blvd., Stafford. Interment: Runge Cemetery, Runge, TX.
