- 5 August 1607 - the will of RICHARD BROOKE of Manchester, county of Lancaster, shoemaker ... sick in body but of good and perfect memory ... to be buried in the parish church of Manchester or where it shall please God to dispose of it . . . debts and funeral expenses paid, then estate to be divided into three parts, one part to Dorothy now my wife, the second part to be divided amongst my three sons, that is, Thomas Brooks, Robert Brooks and William Brooks ... of the last third, to John Brooks son of my late son John Brooks late deceased 13 s. 4 d., to Richard Brooke brother of the said John six pounds toward his bringing up until age 12 years; to Henry Brooke son of John Brooke five shillings ... to Elizabeth Brooke my mother twenty shillings... six shillings eight pence to be distributed by my executors upon twenty of the poorest householders in Manchester ... to Thomas Brooke my son ten pounds ... to Dorothy Brooke my wife three pounds, six shillings, eight pence ... to William Brooke my son five pounds ... to Robert Brooke my son thirty three shillings four pence ... to Richard Brooke, Thomas Brooke, Margaret Brooke and Elizabeth Brooke my grandchildren sons and daughters of Thomas Brooke thirteen shillings four pence equally to be divided among them ... to John Winne of Stockport six shillings, eight pence ... to John Greadley five shillings, eight pence ... residue to Elizabeth Brooke my mother, Dorothy Brooke my wife, Robert Brooke and William Brooke my sons equally to be divided ... whereas I have taken by lease of Robert Berke, gentleman, one dwelling house and shop with appurtenances for the term of twenty one years wherein twenty years or thereabouts are yet to come ... to Dorothy Brooke my now wife as long as she remains a widow, but if she dies or remarries... then the house and shop to Thomas Brooke my son. Executors to be Dorothie my wife and Thomas Brooke my son. Overseers to be my loving friends George Traves of the Yealdhouse and William Kenyon of Manchester.
